Planned Water Maintenance and Temporary Shut-Off October 1, 2024
Posted September 30, 2024
Please be advised that a necessary water system repair will take place on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. In order to complete this work, water service will be temporarily shut off across the entire district, starting at 9:30 AM. We anticipate the repair will take approximately 1.5 hours to complete.

As a precaution, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has been notified and will likely issue a boil water order for the district. The boil order will remain in effect until water samples are collected, tested, and approved by KDHE in Topeka. We will work promptly to collect the required samples as soon as the repair is finished.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Updated Water Rates and Policies Effective September 1, 2024
Posted August 01, 2024
Following our discussions at the Annual Meeting last spring, the Board of Directors has convened to address several concerns regarding our financial outlook. Our last rate adjustment occurred in 2020, setting a $20 meter fee and a water rate of $5 per unit. Since then, the wholesale water rates charged by Iola have increased—first to $5.209 in 2021 and then to $5.47 in 2022—resulting in a need for us to bridge the financial gap. Consequently, the Board has voted to increase our water rate to $5.50 per unit, effective September 1, 2024, while maintaining the existing $20 meter fee. For comparison, City of Iola currently charges a $29.42 meter fee and $5.628 per unit. Should Iola implement further rate increases, we may need to adjust our rates accordingly, although our aim is to limit increases to what is necessary to cover costs and keep rates as affordable as possible.

Currently, approximately 20% of our members are still late in paying their water bills. Water meters are expected to be read on or about the 1st of every month, and paid as soon as possible before it becomes late after the 20th of the month. Effective September 1st, 2024, the Board has voted to increase the late fee to 10% for payments not received by the 20th of the month. The payment date is determined by the date the bank processes the deposit; payments made to the bank after it closes on the 20th are late, and will be assessed a late fee. For members not paying by the end of the month, a $50 service charge will continue to be applied to past-due balances. If amounts remained unpaid and water is shutoff due to nonpayment, the Board has voted to increase the disconnect/reconnect fee to $50 effective September 1st, 2024.

To assist with this transition, a new rate slip can be downloaded from the 'Rates and Fees' link above, or requested from a Board Member; You can attach it to the back of your water payment book or alongside your divider. Please note that we will not be issuing new payment books due to cost considerations. The current late fee information printed on each slip is now outdated; This notice serves to communicate the new rates effective September 1, 2024, for payments of August water usage.

On a positive note, we have received feedback regarding our District’s infrastructure and are in the process of implementing enhanced procedures to ensure high-quality water service with minimal disruptions. As part of this initiative, we will be conducting maintenance on the main water lines, which will require temporary water shutoffs at various points. Updates on this project will be posted on our website and Facebook page as they become available.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Kansas Customer Water System Service Line Inventory Questionnaire
Posted June 30, 2024
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently issued regulations requiring all public water supply (PWS) systems to develop a Lead Service Line Inventory (LSLI) of both water system owned and your privately owned service lines. Your PWS system must submit this inventory to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) by October 16, 2024. If the required information cannot be gathered from the homeowner, KDHE may require the water supplier to excavate private lines in order to identify them. That would be very time consuming and expensive.

While these contaminants are not in the source water, they can enter tap water through the corrosion of service line piping and older household plumbing materials. Your water system is sending this survey to all customers asking that you complete and return the form below. We thank you for your cooperation in helping us with this to continue to serve clean and safe drinking water to our customers. Please take a few minutes to complete this questionnaire to the best of your ability and return to the address at the end of the questionnaire.

Additional information on the Lead and Copper Rule and identifying lead pipes and plumbing can be found on the KDHE website at: kdhe.ks.gov/547 or at the EPA Website at: epa.gov/dwreginfo/lead-and-copper-rule

Your help is needed to complete this requirement.
Please Click Here to complete this survey by July 20th!
